KidzFood! in Transition

Hello Kidzfood participants!

First, apologies are in order for the lateness of this blog update. As many of you know, the Kidzfood program has been undergoing some important changes the past few weeks. Chief among them is that Bread and Roses and KidzFood founder Karen Burson has started work at Environment Hamilton as their Eat Local Program Coordinator. Karen brings her amazing creativity and passion for food to this new position, and will no longer be involved on a day-to-day basis in the projects she started with the Sky Dragon Coop. Karen is still a director of the Sky Dragon board and will continue to associate with the Coop and its projects in her new job. Karen has the best wishes and full support of everyone at Sky Dragon as we carry forward her legacy.

Taking over for Karen is Bread and Roses Executive Chef, Marg Ann Roorda. Marg Ann is doing a great job filling some pretty big shoes, and brings years of food service, management and business experience to her new role of managing KidzFood and the Bread and Roses Cafe. Marg Ann will be directly overseeing KidzFood, and will soon be training another staff person when the lunch program expands to additional schools in October.

That's right, Kidzfood is growing! Taking the lead from the innovative parents and teachers at the Dundas Valley Montessori School, more area schools are now choosing the healthy organic lunch alternative. In order to accomodate the expanded program, KidzFood will have its own dedicated kitchen on the second floor of the Sky Dragon Centre. As the kitchen renovations are completed we'll post pictures of the new facility, along with general updates on the evolving program.

As of next week the KidzFood Blog will once more be functional and updated. We'll be posting weekly menus and accepting feedback from the most important people in our program - the kids and parents who make it work!

Finally, we appreciate your patience in this time of transition for KidzFood and the Sky Dragon Coop. As a grassroots, cooperative, non-profit organization, we are committed to sustaining and developing this healthy lunch program. We believe in good nutrition and supporting local organic farmers. We believe in creating social and economic relationships that nourish our community and our planet. Your support helps us move forward with these goals, and we thank you for it.

Until the next update, happy eating!
